Beauty Reviews: Top 5 Ever

Goldyn founder and owner Vanessa Barcus and Courtney Parker, the store’s Director of Marketing and PR, are both self-confessed beauty product junkies. So we introduce Beauty Reviews, the lowdown on their must-haves in every category. The series kicks off with Vanessa and Courtney each recounting their 5 favorite can’t-live-without-them products.

All-around ointment: Aquaphor Best. Product. Ever. I use it for everything, especially as a lip treatment and tattoo ointment. Whether as a hand moisturizer or an all-around balm for everyday use, I am obsessed.

Foundation: Dermalogica Treatment Foundation A friend turned me on to this line of healthy, lightweight foundations over 10 years ago and I’ve used it ever since. The foundation has a water base and creates an antioxidant moisture shield, so it’s great for skin as well as good cover.

Cleanser: Sanitas Lemon Cream Cleanser This vitamin-packed scrub removes every last bit of makeup and dirt while providing anti-aging benefits, and is still gentle enough for daily use. Plus it smells like lemon cream pie. Delicious.

Mascara: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara A friend doing sales for Giorgio Armani got me obsessed with this mascara. Whether it’s the brush or the Microfill technology (sure, we’ll buy that), this mascara builds up every lash and makes falsies totally unnecessary.

Soap: Dr. Bronner Eucalyptus Liquid Soap: Another multi-purpose product that makes my life a little easier. It makes a great body wash and hand soap, and even a shampoo or face cleanser in a pinch. As not-so-fringe benefits, the eucalyptus clears your sinuses and the soap uses only organic oils (essential or otherwise).

Cleanser: Cetaphil I’ve tried a lot of different cleansers, but always come back to Cetaphil. It’s gentle and non-foaming, so I can use it year-round on my sensitive skin. It even works as an all-over body wash – you can forgo lotion afterward. I’ll sometimes alternate Cetaphil with Mario Badescu’s Glycolic Foamer Cleanser or Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate for a deeper clean.

Dry shampoo: Bumble and bumble. Thickening Dry Spun Finish Spray I’ve tried every dry shampoo on the market. Unlike traditional dry shampoos, this one isn’t a powder, but a spray that on the roots acts as a hairspray, volumizer, texturizer and dry shampoo all in one. A total no-brainer for my fine hair.

Moisturizer: Kate Somerville Daily Moisturizer I’m trying to stay one step ahead of my early 30s and prevent impending wrinkles. Using this lotion at night gives the extra boost of moisture to keep my (ever-changing) dry, sensitive and oily skin in check, especially with the havoc Colorado’s dry weather can wreak.

Lip balm: Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 This perfect no-fuss balm has it all – a hint of color without smudging, SPF, and an amazing scent. A friend who used to do Fresh’s PR introduced me to the line when it started small in Boston over 10 years ago, and I’ve loved the Sugar Lip Treatments ever since.

Shave cream: EOS Pomegranate Raspberry Shave Cream: This inexpensive shave cream smells amazing and does wonders to moisturize my legs, which can get really irritated from shaving since I have incredibly dry, sensitive skin. Bonus: A bottle will last forever.
